NCAA Game Summary - Texas-Arlington at Samford
(Saturday, November 24)
Final Score: Texas-Arlington 65, Samford 58
Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Kevin Butler scored 15 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington captured a 65-58 win over Samford Bulldogs in non-conference action at the Pete Hanna Center.
Jordan Reves recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, adding three blocked shots as well for the Mavericks (2-1) while Jamel Outler and Shaq White-Miller contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs (1-6) were paced by Raijon Kelly who dropped in a game-high 20 points, followed by Tim Williams who came up a rebound shy of a double-double with his 14 points, while Connor Miller tacked on another 11 points in yet another setback for the program.
UTA shot only 2-of-9 behind the three-point line in the first half, but because the squad held Samford to a total of just eight field goals it was easy for the Mavericks to claim a 36-26 edge at the break.
In the second half it was time for the visitors to sink only eight field goals, but the squad made up for it by outscoring the Bulldogs at the charity stripe, 10-5, in the frame.
The Mavericks nearly cost themselves a valuable road win as they turned the ball over 18 times.
