Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Royce O'Neale scored 14 points, one of four starters to score in double figures, as the Denver Pioneers captured a 66-60 win over the New Mexico State Aggies in Western Athletic Conference action at Magness Arena.
Chris Udofia and Brett Olson both tallied 13 points for the Pioneers (19-8, 14-2 WAC), followed by Chase Hallam with 11 points as the squad extended its win streak to eight in a row.
The Aggies (19-10, 12-4) were paced by Bandja Sy who registered a double- double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, hitting all three of his 3-point attempts as the team bowed for the second time in the last three outings. Sim Bhullar accounted for 17 points and four blocks, followed by Tyrone Watson with 10 points and five assists.
Denver shot just 37.5 percent from the floor in the first half, but the team did connect on 5-of-8 behind the 3-point line, while NMSU refrained from even attempting a long-distance shot yet still owned a slim 28-27 lead at the break.
In the second half the Aggies pushed their lead to seven less than four minutes in, but the visitors ended up making a total of only nine field goals in the period, allowing the Pioneers to slip by for the victory.
In a game that featured seven ties and just as many lead changes, the Aggies were guilty of 18 turnovers, which Denver traded in for 27 points.
