Lincoln, NE (Sports Network) - Terone Johnson finished with 18 points as the Purdue Boilermakers downed the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 65-56, in a Big Ten Conference tilt at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
A.J. Hammons added 14 points, eight rebounds, and six blocks for Purdue (9-8, 3-2 Big Ten) as it picked up its second win in a row. D.J. Byrd chipped in 12 points and Ronnie Johnson tallied 10 points to go along with six assists.
Shavon Shields scored a team-best 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Nebraska (9-9, 0-5) as it suffered its fifth consecutive setback since entering conference action. Jordan Tyrance was a spark off the bench with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Cornhuskers had trouble in the early going and fell behind after they went 8-of-31 from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Purdue took a 28-19 lead into the intermission after it shot 43.3 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Boilermakers hearted up slightly to knock down 46.2 percent of their field goal attempts after the break. Nebraska also improved to hit 40 percent of its shots from the field and converted 8-of-10 at the free throw line, but it was unable to overcome the halftime deficit.
The Cornhuskers lost despite outscoring the visitors, 18-2, in points off turnovers. Purdue enjoyed a 47-36 edge in the rebounding battle.
