Terps use balanced attack to top Georgia Tech

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Alyssa Thomas led three Maryland players who recorded double-doubles with 28 points and 10 rebounds as 10th-ranked Maryland held off Georgia Tech, 66-57, on Sunday.

Tianna Hawkins registered her 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds, despite fouling out of the game with 52 seconds left, and Alicia DeVaughn added 11 points and 12 boards for the Terps (15-3, 6-1 ACC), who have won five straight following a Jan. 3 loss.

Tyaunna Marshall paced Georgia Tech with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Sydney Wallace contributed nine points for the Yellow Jackets (8-10, 1-6), who have dropped four straight games.

Maryland trailed by as many as six in the first half with just under five minutes left, but went on a 9-0 run to enter the break up three, 32-29.

The Terps opened up the second half on a 15-2 run, giving the visitors a 47-31 edge, but Georgia Tech fought back with just over three minutes remaining.

Back-to-back Marshall buckets closed the gap to five points with 2:53 left, but DeVaughn and Thomas finished the deal, combining for the team's final nine points to secure the victory.

Maryland has now won eight of the last 10 games in the series.
