Sharks take Arena Bowl on last-play score
Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Aaron Garcia threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jeron Harvey on the final play of the game to give the Jacksonville Sharks a 73-70 victory over the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Bowl.
Garcia set an Arena Bowl record with 402 yards passing, but it was his last throw that won it.
With just two seconds left, he eluded a rush and threw to the right front corner of the end zone. Harvey made the catch with zeroes on the clock to win it.
Harvey finished with nine catches for 115 yards and three scores. Garcia threw eight touchdown passes in all.
Arizona quarterback Nick Davila also threw eight scoring passes and finished with 338 yards through the air. His 12-yard TD throw to Kerry Reed with 21 seconds left had put the Rattlers ahead 70-67.
The Rattlers had won 11 straight, including a pair of playoff victories, entering the contest. Arizona won AFL titles in 1994 and '97.
Jacksonville won its first Arena title in only its second year of existence.
The 143 combined points set an Arena Bowl record, eclipsing the old mark of 131 when San Jose beat Arizona in 2004. The teams also combined for 63 points in the fourth quarter alone.
