(Tuesday, January 28th)
Final Score: Phoenix 3, Los Angeles 0
Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Greiss made 30 saves for his second shutout of the season in the Phoenix Coyotes' 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson had two goals for the Coyotes, who started a five-game homestand on Tuesday.
"We played really hard, physical," Greiss said. "We didn't give them much. It should give us confidence for the future."
Jonathan Quick stopped 26-of-29 shots for the Kings, who have lost six of their last seven.
"I think tonight Phoenix did a really good job," LA forward Dustin Brown admitted. "I don't know how many shots we had but I don't know how many really good chances we actually had and that's probably a bit of them playing really well and us not being hungry enough to get to the dirty areas."
Ekman-Larsson opened the scoring at 15:57 of the first period when his shot from the point got past Quick.
Greiss made 13 saves in the first to preserve Phoenix's one-goal edge.
The Coyotes took a 2-0 lead on Ekman-Larsson's power-play goal at the 3:16 mark of the middle stanza. His slap shot from the top of the right circle beat Quick.
Antoine Vermette, who also had an assist, put home a rebound at 8:47 of the third period. He extended his points streak to five games.
Phoenix has taken two of three from Los Angeles this season ... It was the third shutout of Greiss' career ... The Coyotes went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Kings went 0-for-2 ... Phoenix forward Shane Doan recorded his 500th career assist on Ekman-Larsson's second goal.
