NHL Game Summary - Boston at Detroit
(Wednesday, November 27th)
Final Score: Detroit 6, Boston 1
Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Johan Franzen collected three assists and the Detroit Red Wings rode an offensive surge to a 6-1 win over the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena.
Henrik Zetterberg was one of four players to register a goal and an assist for Detroit, which has won two straight and three of its last four games thanks to a season high for scores in one game.
Jonas Gustavsson was hardly tested by the Boston, needing to make only 16 saves to improve his record this season to 6-0-1.
"Well I thought we skated. We had puck luck today, too, haven't had a whole bunch of that this year, had good special teams, good goaltending, but we skated good," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock.
Tuukka Rask surrendered all six goals on 28 shots for the Bruins, who had picked up at least a point in their last five games (4-0-1).
"Everything we did tonight was just disastrous," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "Every once in a while you get a game like that and you hope it wakes your team up."
Franzen went off near the midway point of the first period for high-sticking, the second penalty of the game for the home team.
Detroit opened the scoring 11 seconds after the Bruins' power play ended, with Franzen playing a key role. He led a 3-on-2 rush that appeared to be thwarted when his stick broke. The puck, however, slid through the slot and Justin Abdelkader buried it from the doorstep at the 11:49 mark.
The Red Wings exploded for three goals in a 3:56 span in the second period.
Tomas Tatar made it 2-0 by beating Rask on a wraparound at 6:05, Zetterberg lit the lamp at 8:47, and Franzen set up Niklas Kronwall for a one-timer on a power play at 10:01.
The Red Wings got third-period goals from Drew Miller and Gustav Nyquist before Jarome Iginla spoiled Gustavsson's shutout bid with 2:25 remaining.
Detroit played its second straight game without forward Pavel Datsyuk, who is going through concussion protocols ... The Red Wings signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a six-year contract extension on Wednesday ... Boston defenseman Adam McQuaid returned to the lineup after missing eight games with a lower-body injury.
