University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Talor Battle scored a game-high 24 points to lead the second-seeded Penn State Nittany Lions to a 77-73 overtime win versus the seventh-seeded George Mason Patriots in first round action of the NIT at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Jeff Brooks also added 13 points for the Nittany Lions (23-11), while Chris Babb and Andrew Jones netted 11 points apiece.

The Patriots (22-11) were paced by Cam Long who scored 16 points in a losing effort. Andre Cornelius and Dre Smith each added 12 points for GMU, while Michael Morrison chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

PSU got off to a fast start, shooting 6-of-12 from three-point range in the first half, to take a 38-31 lead at the break.

GMU took the lead in the second stanza, only to watch it slip away on a three- pointer by Battle as time expired, sending the game into overtime tied at 65-65.

The Nittany Lions regained control of the contest in the bonus period, knocking down 4-of-6 free-throw attempts, en route to a four-point victory.

With the win PSU will now host Rhode Island in the second round of the NIT.
