(Tuesday, February 24th)
Final Score: Ohio State 73, Penn State 59
Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Jeremie Simmons came off the bench and tallied 14 points to power the Ohio State Buckeyes past the Penn State Nittany Lions, 73-59, in a crucial Big Ten bout at Value City Arena.
Coming off the bench for the first time this season, Simmons went 4-of-7 from long range to help OSU (18-8, 8-7 BigTen) snap a three-game slide. P.J. Hill and B.J. Mullens added 13 points apiece, and William Buford finished with 11 of his own. Evan Turner, the team's leading scorer at 16.7 ppg, was limited to just six points, but he did have six boards and a career-high eight assists.
Jamelle Cornley scored 11 points to lead PSU (19-9, 8-7), which had its two- game win streak snapped. Andrew Jones, Stanley Pringle and Talor Battle all netted 10 points, with Battle also recording nine boards and seven helpers.
OSU outscored PSU 19-2 at the start of the game before the Lions battled back on the strength of a 21-3 run. A three-pointer by Simmons with 1:22 left gave the Buckeyes a 32-30 lead and they would carry that into the locker room.
The second half was tight for a bit, but the Buckeyes scored 25 of the final 35 points in the game to pull away for the 14-point victory.
OSU, which defeated PSU for the 11th straight time, shot 52.0 percent from the field and that included a 10-of-22 performance from long distance.
