Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Stanley Pringle scored 22 points and added four steals for the Penn State Nittany Lions as they squeezed out an 85-83 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Talor Battle contributed to the Lions (7-1) win with 18 points and seven assists. Danny Morrissey came off the bench and scored 13 points in his 18 minutes of play. As a whole, Penn State's reserves scored 22 points.
Gani Lawal racked up 34 points and 10 rebounds for Georgia Tech (4-1) in the loss. Iman Shumpert dished out 12 assists and donated 14 points of his own. Also posting a double-double for the group was Alade Aminu who dropped in 12 points and cleared 10 boards.
Beyond the arc, Georgia Tech was very ineffective, making only 3-16 shots from downtown. They were held scoreless from three-point territory in the second half, missing all six attempts.
Both teams battled all night long, with seven ties and seven lead changes. With eight seconds left in the contest, Georgia Tech made a final field goal to bring the game within two, but Penn State held on and handed the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season.
PSU turned the ball over just six times on the night, but the squad nearly let one slip away as they converted a mere 13-of-21 chances at the free-throw line.
