Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - Jake Kelly recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists, helping the Iowa Hawkeyes prevail over the Penn State Nittany Lions, 75-67, in a double-overtime thriller in Big Ten play.
Kelly was one of three Iowa (15-16, 5-13 BigTen) players to post a double- double, as the Hawkeyes snapped a three-game slide. Cyrus Tate tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Jarryd Cole had 14 points and 11 boards. Matt Gatens even got involved, finishing with 12 points and six rebounds.
PSU (21-10, 10-8) was paced by Talor Battle, who logged 26 points and 10 rebounds. Stanley Pringle turned in 15 points and six assists, and Jamelle Cornley chipped in with 10 points in the setback.
Cornley hit a jumper with 50 seconds left in the first half that sent the teams into the locker room tied at 24-24.
Battle scored 11 points in the final two minutes of regulation to help the Lions rally from nine down. Cole, though, converted a layup with 10 seconds left to knot the score at 56-56 for Iowa and force overtime.
In the first overtime, Cornley tied things up at 64-64 on a three-pointer with 35 seconds left and another session was needed.
Battle gave PSU a quick lead on a three-pointer in the second overtime, but PSU would be held without a point over the final four-plus minutes, as Iowa claimed the eight-point win.
