State College, PA (Sports Network) - Talor Battle scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Penn State Nittany Lions slipped past the Indiana Hoosiers, 61-58, in Big Ten Conference action at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Jamelle Cornley and Stanley Pringle added 10 points apiece for PSU (20-9, 9-7 BigTen), which reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign.
Verdell Jones III paced Indiana (6-22, 1-15) in defeat with 16 points, eight assists and five boards. Devan Dumes also finished with 16 points, while Tom Pritchard had 10 and five boards in the team's seventh straight loss.
The first half went back-and-forth and Pringle gave PSU a 29-28 edge at the break on a layup with three seconds left.
Trailing 58-57 with 2:16 left, Cornley converted back-to-back buckets to give the Lions a 61-58 lead, which they would not relinquish.
PSU shot an efficient 50.0 percent from the floor, but struggled from both long distance (6-of-20) and at the foul line (7-of-17).
