Keane named MLS Player of the Week
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 21 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.
Keane earned the honor after netting two goals and assisting on a third in the Galaxy's 3-1 win over Portland on Saturday, which moved the club into a tie for third place in the Western Conference.
The Timbers scored first on Saturday, but Keane had a hand in the equalizer scored by Gyasi Zardes just before halftime to level the match at 1-1.
Keane then took over the game in the second half as he put Los Angeles in front with a header in the 73rd minute from Landon Donovan's cross before securing the win five minutes from time with a penalty kick after Juninho was brought down by Portland's Diego Chara.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
