Description: Kyle Farnsworth has decided to become a free agent. He was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. SOURCE: Brian McTaggart, MLB.com
Insight: The Astros dumped Farnsworth in favor of former closer Jose Veras. He's compiled a 4.40 ERA over 35 appearances this season. We'd expect Farnsworth to find work quickly.

5/4/2014 5:55:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Rubin of espnny.com, Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Kyle Farnsworth is still New York's closer.
Insight: Farnsworth has gone 0-2 with a 10.81 ERA over his last four appearances and he blew his first save of the season Saturday at Colorado. Daisuke Matsuzaka has posted a 1.74 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 10 1/3 relief innings this year and may get the next shot should Farnsworth continue to struggle.

Description: Kyle Farnsworth has replaced Jose Valverde as the Mets' closer, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.
Insight: Valverde allowed six hits, four homers and eight runs (five earned) over his last three appearances. The 38-year-old Farnsworth, who has a 1.23 ERA in 7 1/3 innings this season, hasn't closed regularly since 2011.

8/11/2013 3:44:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay has released righthander Kyle Farnsworth.
Insight: Farnsworth was DFA'd on Friday. He wasn't having a very good season for the Rays. In 39 appearances, Farnsworth went 2-0 with a 5.79 ERA, his worst ERA since 2002 when he played for the Cubs. Opponents are hitting .306 versus Farnsworth in 2013.

1/24/2013 12:17:00 PM
Description: Jerry Crasnick from ESPN reports that the Rays have re-signed reliever Kyle Farnsworth.
Insight: It's a one-year pact worth $1.5 millions. Farnsworth (1-6, 4.00 ERA, 25 holds) is fine to own in leagues where holds count but other than that he won't be worth having on your roster unless closer Fernando Rodney gets injured.

6/29/2012 12:11:00 PM
Description: Rays reliever Kyle Farnsworth is likely to be activated from the 60-day DL on Saturday. He's been out since early April with a right elbow strain.
Insight: Farnsworth's fantasy value is much different now than it was when he first went on the DL back in April. Fernando Rodney (2-1, 1.07 ERA, 21 saves) has been stellar while filling in for Farnsworth at closer and he'll remain in that role even now that Farnsworth is healthy again. Farnsworth could contribute some holds and a low ERA, but other than that, he won't be of much use in fantasy when he returns.

5/1/2012 9:09:00 PM
Description: Kyle Farnsworth (elbow strain) has been transferred to the 60-day DL. He is eligible to return on June 5th.
Insight: Fernando Rodney has been in the zone since taking over for Farnsworth as the team's closer (0.87 ERA, 7-7 in save chances). It's definitely not a guarantee that Farnsworth will resume the closer role upon his return, especially if Rodney keeps up at this torrid pace.

4/6/2012 2:15:00 PM
Description: Kyle Farnsworth will need four-to-six weeks rest due to elbow soreness.
Insight: Farnsworth became a reliable closer for the Rays last season, saving 25 games with a 2.18 ERA. Joel Peralta, Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell are all possible options for manager Joe Maddon, who seems ready to use the "closer-by-committee" strategy until Farnsworth returns.

4/3/2012 4:04:00 PM
Description: The team hasn't made it official, but Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Kyle Farnsworth will begin the season on the DL with elbow soreness.
Insight: Farnsworth morphed into a reliable closer for the Rays last season, saving 25 games with a 2.18 ERA. If anything, Farnsworth's ascendance shows that closing isn't actually that hard, and that fantasy value is really directly tied to opportunities. We'll keep an eye on the situation to see if manager Joe Maddon will apoint a definitive replacement.

4/12/2011 9:12:00 PM
Description: Rays RP Kyle Farnsworth worked the last 2/3 of an inning to get the save as Tampa Bay defeated Boston, 3-2.
Insight: The Rays have not produced many save opportunities so it is tough to call Farnsworth the official closer, though it appears he is currently Joe Maddon's choice.

2/21/2011 3:02:00 PM
Description: Kyle Farnsworth is the early favorite to land the Rays' closing job, MLB.com reports. Joel Peralta, Jake McGee and J.P. Howell will also be in the mix.
Insight: If he does become the closer, Farnsworth will have some big shoes to fill after the departure of Rafael Soriano to the Yankees. (RapidDraft.com)

2/6/2011 1:37:00 PM
Description: The Rays plan on allowing multiple pitchers to finish games this year. SOURCE: TAMPABAY.COM
Insight: Kyle Farnsworth is a likely part of the equation. Other than that, it's anybody's guess. Peralta, Cruz or McGee could all be a part of the ninth inning. It's a situation to avoid for now.

1/31/2011 9:01:00 AM
Description: Per HardballTalk.com, the St. Petersburg Times reported that each season of Farnsworth's recent two-year deal with the Rays includes $300,000 in incentives for closing games.
Insight: Tampa faces an uncertain closer situation with Rafael Soriano gone to the Yankees. Farnsworth has never saved more than 16 games in a season, so he wouldn't be worth chasing in fantasy. Anybody who closes presents some value, though, and he presents a decent career WHIP of 1.39. (RapidDraft.com)

1/12/2011 3:54:00 PM
Description: Right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth has agreed to one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: Farnsworth has minimal value, unless the Rays suddenly decide they want him as their closer.

7/28/2010 12:24:00 AM
Description: Updating a previous item, Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports Farnsworth's right hamstring cramped up during Tuesday night's game against the Twins.
Insight: The Royals reportedly don't think Farnsworth will have to go on the DL, but he will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. Consider him day-to-day for now. (SportsBuff.com)

7/28/2010 12:12:00 AM
Description: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports, via Twitter, that Farnsworth left Tuesday night's game against Minnesota with an apparent injury.
Insight: Farnsworth was able to finish the sixth inning before leaving the game. Until his injury is known, it's hard to know anything about his status. (SportsBuff.com)

7/22/2010 9:17:00 PM
Description: Other teams are sure that the Royals intend to trade RP Kyle Farnsworth, to take advantage of his value in a weak market. SOURCE: Buster Olney on Twitter
Insight: He can be a good source of K's and he can vulture some wins if he gets on a contender...or he could be so wild that he blows up your WHIP and ERA.

4/12/2010 6:03:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous item, Farnsworth (shoulder) returned to the mound on Monday and pitched a scoreless inning against the Tigers.
Insight: Farnsworth left last Friday's game with shoulder tightness, but it doesn't appear to be a big concern if he was able to return to action so quickly. (SportsBuff.com)

4/12/2010 3:38:00 PM
Description: The Kansas City Star reports Farnsworth (shoulder) threw some long toss on Sunday and reported no problems afterward.
Insight: Farnsworth may be able to avoid a DL stint, but no timetable has been given for his return to action. (SportsBuff.com)

3/26/2010 4:50:00 PM
Description: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that Farnsworth is the leading candidate to replace Gil Meche (shoulder) in the starting rotation if Meche is not able to be ready for the start of the season.
Insight: Farnsworth has pitched out of the bullpen most of his career. The Royals toyed with the idea of making him a starter this spring, and he appears to be headed back to the bullpen if not for Meche's injury. (SportsBuff.com)
