(SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers try to get back on track when they play the first of four straight games with the Philadelphia Phillies Monday night at Miller Park.
The Brewers have lost five of their last six games and dropped two of three meetings with the Cincinnati Reds this weekend. In Sunday's 4-2 loss, starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo tossed seven innings of two-run ball before he was removed for a pinch-hitter in the eighth after throwing just 95 pitches.
"I thought we had a good shot to win it," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "I'm sure they probably thought the same thing with us not swinging the bat very well."
Logan Schafer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in defeat.
Taking the hill for the NL Central-leading Brewers Monday is Marco Estrada. He is 7-5 with a 4.94 earned run average and has lost three of his last five starts. In nine career games (3 starts) against the Phillies, Estrada is 1-0 with a 6.33 ERA.
Estrada has a 4-2 record in seven home starts this season.
Meanwhile, the Phillies will continue their 10-game road trip tonight and were swept in three games at Pittsburgh this weekend.
The Phillies dropped a 6-2 decision on Sunday afternoon, as former Pirate A.J. Burnett was dealt the loss after he gave up three runs in seven innings.
Marlon Byrd homered and finished with two hits for Philadelphia, which has lost 13 of its last 16 games. Byrd has been one of the lone bright spots for the Phillies with 18 homers and 52 RBI.
"Everyday grinder," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said of Byrd. "(He) produces, chips in. He's been one of our consistent bats."
Philadelphia is 1-5 on this trip and will send Cole Hamels to the mound Monday. Hamels is 2-5 with a 2.98 earned run average and winless (0-2) in his last five outings. The left-hander has a 1-3 mark in seven road starts and is 6-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 11 career starts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee won three games in Philadelphia back in early April and went 5-2 against the Phillies last season.
