Wie out 3-to-5 weeks with finger injury

(SportsNetwork.com) - Michelle Wie will miss the next 3-to-5 weeks due to an injury to her right hand, according to the LPGA and her management company, IMG.

Wie has a "stress reaction in a bone of the index finger on her right hand" the statement read.

"Michelle has developed an 'acute-on-chronic' injury influenced by the volume in which she practices and plays. Michelle is very aware of her body and was keen to pick up on this injury before it may have created a more severe problem," said Dr. Tom Graham of the Cleveland Clinic, who also treated Wie's broken wrist a few years ago.

The timing isn't good for Wie as she will miss next week's LPGA Championship, and the final major of the year, the Evian Championship, is also in question.

"I was looking forward to playing the next three weeks. It's honestly one of my favorite stretches on tour," Wie said. "It's extremely disappointing to miss these events, but I am relieved to have a proper diagnosis."

After winning the U.S. Women's Open and sharing eighth at the Arkansas Championship, Wie missed the cut at the Women's British Open and at the Marathon Classic. She then withdrew from this week's Meijer LPGA Classic during the first round.

Wie also won the LPGA LOTTE in her native Hawaii earlier this year and finished second at the Kraft Nabisco Championship among her 10 top-10s. She is second only to Stacy Lewis on the money list and in top-10 finishes this year.
