Eastern Illinois adds Whitlow, three other transfers
Charleston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Eastern Illinois football coach Kim Dameron announced the addition of former Kentucky quarterback Jalen Whitlow and two other FBS transfers as well as one junior college transfer on Wednesday.
Joining Whitlow are wide receiver Stephen Bravo-Brown from South Florida, cornerback Anthony Standifer from Mississippi and cornerback Cedric Julius from San Bernardino Valley College.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound Whitlow has started 15 games over the past two seasons at Kentucky. He made eight starts last season and passed for 1,033 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 457 yards and six touchdowns.
He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Bravo-Brown, 5-10, 178, who graduated from South Florida in December, played in 31 games over three seasons, collecting 22 catches for 259 yards and one touchdown. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Standifer, 6-1, 175, played in three games in each of the last two seasons at Ole Miss. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Julius, 5-10, 175, will have three years of eligibility remaining after playing one season at San Bernardino Valley College.
"We have a lot of talented football players returning from last year's team," Dameron said, "but to continue to compete for Ohio Valley Conference championships and to make a run into the FCS playoffs, we will need to continue to add talented football players to our roster."
Last season, Eastern Illinois had a 12-2 record and a No. 4 final ranking in The Sports Network FCS Top 25, advancing to the national playoff quarterfinals.
The two-time defending OVC champions will open the 2014 season by visiting the University of Minnesota on Aug. 28.
