Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Keifer Sykes led the way with 24 points
and nine assists, as the Green Bay Phoenix downed the Youngstown State
Penguins, 85-69, in Horizon League action at the Resch Center.
For the Phoenix (11-3, 2-0 Horizon), Alec Brown added 20 points, Greg Mays
finished with 16 points and Jordan Fouse scored 10.
Bobby Hain led the Penguins (9-8, 0-2) with 18 points, while Kendrick Perry
scored 14, Kamren Belin finished with 12 points and Ryan Weber chipped in with
Green Bay shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half and missed all
six of its 3-point tries. Youngstown State shot just 41.9 percent but did hit
on 4-of-10 from beyond the arc in the first. Trailing 34-25 with under five
minutes to play in the half, the Phoenix finished the period on a 15-4 run to
take 40-38 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Phoenix knocked down 66.7 percent of their field goal
tries, but again were not successful from deep, missing their three 3-point
attempts in the period. The Penguins struggled from the field, making only
38.1 percent of their field goal tries, including 3-of-10 from 3-point
distance. Green Bay used a 17-3 run early in the second to build a double-
digit lead and Youngstown State never challenged again, as the Phoenix cruised
to their sixth straight victory.
Green Bay dominated in the paint, outscoring Youngstown State 58-20. The
Phoenix also finished with a 20-8 advantage in fast break points.
