Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Keifer Sykes poured in 29 points to lift the
Green Bay Phoenix to a 75-66 win over the Detroit Titans in Horizon League
action at Calihan Hall.
Carrington Love contributed 11 points and six assists, while Greg Mays also
netted 11 points for Green Bay (24-5, 14-2 HL). The victory was the fifth in a
row for the Phoenix, who will be the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League
Juwan Howard, Jr. paced the Titans (13-18, 6-10) with 15 points and eight
rebounds. Matthew Grant added 13 points, Evan Bruinsma had 12 points and
Carlton Brundidge provided a spark off the bench with 10 points in 15 minutes.
The loss was the third in a row for Detroit.
Although Detroit jumped out to a 13-5 lead less than four minutes after tip
off, Green Bay took a 37-30 lead into halftime after it shot 48.1 percent from
the floor and converted all seven of its free-throw attempts in the opening
period. The Titans were limited to 35.3 percent efficiency from the field in
the first half.
Detroit improved to hit on 45.8 percent of its field goal tries after the
break, but the Phoenix made 48.1 percent of their shots from the floor,
including a 5-of-8 clip from 3-point range to extend their lead. Green Bay led
for the final 15:48 of regulation.
The Phoenix assisted 20 of their 26 makes from the floor and finished 9-of-17
from beyond the arc.
