Final Score: Green Bay 62, Detroit 52
Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Keifer Sykes scored 22 points and pulled
down eight rebounds as the Green Bay Phoenix extended their win streak to 12
games with a 62-52 victory over the Detroit Titans in Horizon League action at
the Resch Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Phoenix (17-3, 7-0 HL) were Greg Mays
and Carrington Love with 11 and 10 points, respectively, the former also
posting a team-best 10 rebounds.
Evan Bruinsma dropped in 14 points for the Titans (9-13, 2-5), followed by
Carlton Brundidge with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Juwan Howard
Jr., the team's leading scorer heading into the meeting with 18.0 ppg,
converted only 1-of-10 from the floor and finished with three points as the
team bowed for the fifth time in six tries.
Both teams had a hard time finding the basket in the first half, but even
while Green Bay was shooting a brutal 6-of-18 from the floor and missing all
five chances behind the 3-point line, the squad was able to connect on 18-
of-22 at the charity stripe in order to establish a 30-25 advantage at the
break. Detroit made just 8-of-28 from the field through the first 20 minutes
In the second half, again the teams had their issues, the visitors converting
just 34.6 percent from the floor and Green Bay a woeful 7-of-28. However,
free-throw shooting was the saving grace for the Phoenix once more as they
made good on 16-of-19 to secure the win.
In addition to forcing 16 turnovers, which translated into 20 points, Green
Bay also outscored the Titans at the line by a 34-14 margin.
