NCAA Game Summary - Green Bay at South Dakota

(Saturday, December 14)

Final Score: Green Bay 89, South Dakota 85

Vermillion, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Keifer Sykes led five players in double figures as he delivered 23 points, helping the Green bay Phoenix to come up with an 89-85 win over the South Dakota Coyotes in non-conference action at the DakotaDome.

Sykes, who shot 9-of-12 at the free-throw line, added six rebounds and five assists for the Phoenix (6-3) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Alec Brown filled in his stat line with 17 points, eight rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists, followed by Greg Mays with 15 points. Carrington Love and Jordan Fouse both tallied 11 points, the latter clearing a game-high 14 boards.

South Dakota (3-7) was paced by Brandon Bos with 19 points, Trevor Gruis added 16 and eight boards, followed by Casey Kasperbauer and Trey Norris with 14 points apiece.

The hosts led by as many as 14 in the first half, mostly due to the fact that Green Bay shot only 34.3 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action. Eventually USD was able to claim a 44-37 edge at the break.

In the second half it was South Dakota that had trouble finding the basket, connecting on only 35.5 percent from the floor, including 2-of-10 beyond the arc, and that opened the door for the Phoenix to storm back and capture the win.

Green Bay owned a 42-38 advantage on the glass and that presence close to the basket helped to provide the visitors with a 42-28 scoring edge in the paint as well.
