NCAA Game Summary - Pepperdine vs. Green Bay

Anchorage, AK ( - Keifer Sykes scored 23 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Green Bay Phoenix captured a 97-89 win over the Pepperdine Waves in the first round of the 2013 Great Alaska Shootout.

Alec Brown added 21 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots for Green Bay (3-1), followed by Greg Mays with 18 points. Reserves Carrington Love and Vincent Garrett also got in on the act as they produced 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Waves (4-2) were paced by Brendan Lane who shot 12-of-14 from the floor, making both of his 3-point tries, as he tallied a game-high 26 points and cleared a game-high 13 rebounds as well. Also logging a double-double was Jeremy Major with 19 points and 12 assists, while Malte Kramer accounted for 12 points and David Jasperson 12 boards in the setback.

Despite shooting 53.3 percent from the field in the first half, the Waves found themselves with a 39-38 deficit at the break. Green Bay converted only 40.6 percent from the floor, but the team did knock down 7-of-11 beyond the arc in the period.

In the second half Pepperdine continued to shoot the ball well at a 57.1 percent clip, but the Phoenix dialed up the accuracy from the floor to 51.4 percent, but it was the team's 19-2 scoring advantage at the free-throw line that put them over the top.

In addition to forcing 20 turnovers, Green Bay also held a 25-4 scoring edge at the charity stripe.

Green Bay will next face Harvard in a semifinal matchup on Friday, while the Waves will clash with Denver.
