Dream stay alive behind McCoughtry
Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Angel McCoughtry did the heavy lifting with 39 points, but it was a balanced attack and a tremendous second half that helped the Atlanta Dream force a decisive Game 3 in this Eastern Conference semifinal with a 92-83 win over the Chicago Sky.
McCoughtry shot an efficient 13-of-20 from the field and sank 13-of-14 free throws for the Dream, who will look to carry the momentum back home for Tuesday's Game 3. A meeting with Indiana, which swept its semifinal over Washington, in the East finals is on the line.
Tiffany Hayes added 15 points before fouling out, Shoni Schimmel and Jasmine Thomas both scored nine points, while Sancho Lyttle and Erika de Souza each had eight.
Elena Delle Donne scored 22 points to pace Chicago, while Allie Quigley donated 20 off the bench. Prior to the game, Quigley received her award for 2014 Sixth Woman of the Year.
Delle Donne came out firing, scoring seven early points to help the Sky capture a quick 10-2 lead. She finished with 11 in the period, but Atlanta battled back and took its first lead with 23 seconds left on de Souza's jumper from the top of the key.
A back-and-forth second quarter left Atlanta leading 44-43 heading into the second half.
The final 20 minutes belonged to the Dream, who shot 64.5 percent after halftime and held Chicago's star Delle Donne without a field goal.
Hayes hit two triples during a flurry early in the fourth quarter that put Atlanta ahead by double digits. The margin was back to six with under a minute to play, but McCoughtry sank two late free throws and Sylvia Fowles was whistled for a costly moving screen.
