Dream coach Cooper has surgery for tongue cancer
Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Dream announced that head coach Michael Cooper had surgery for tongue cancer on Thursday.
The team said in a statement Friday that the procedure was successful and Cooper "will be back coaching soon."
Assistant Karleen Thompson has been filling in for Cooper, who the team announced Monday was diagnosed with early stage tongue cancer.
Cooper, who won five NBA titles as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers and two WNBA titles as a coach with the Los Angeles Sparks, is in his first season with Atlanta. The Dream lead the Eastern Conference with a 15-7 record.
