Mystics use late run to pull away from Sun
Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Ivory Latta scored 23 points and dished out six assists to lead the Washington Mystics over the Connecticut Sun, 89-75, Wednesday afternoon at the Verizon Center.
Monique Currie added 17 points and Stefanie Dolson had 13 points for the Mystics, who have won two straight and four of five.
Chiney Ogwumike scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to the lead the Sun, who have dropped nine of 11 contests. Kelsey Bone and Alex Bentley tallied 15 points apiece for Connecticut, which stayed with Washington until the fourth quarter.
After two Ogwumike free throws gave the Sun a 65-61 lead 1 1/2 minutes into the final period, the Mystics went on a 12-1 run. Emma Meesseman's layup with 5:37 left gave Washington a 73-66 cushion.
The lead later ballooned to 82-70 after a pair of Currie free throws at the 2:19 mark and Washington won going away.
