Description: The Padres are bringing back outfielder Xavier Nady on a minor league contract. SOURCE: Corey Brock, MLB.com
Insight: Nady played for San Diego between 2000 and 2005 before bouncing around between New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Arizona, Washington and most recently, San Francisco. Even if he makes the team, there's nothing to suggest Nady will be a viable fantasy contributor next season.

Description: Former major leaguer Xavier Nady has apparently found his swing down at Triple-A Omaha.
Insight: Nady is batting .320 with 11 HR, 38 RBI and a .902 OPS in 60 games. Between 2006-08 he averaged 21 homers a season for the Pirates and Yankees. Maybe there is a spot for him at the major league level.

3/18/2012 4:23:00 PM
Description: Xavier Nady has signed a minor league deal with the Nationals.
Insight: Key words being "minor league." Nady will not even be reporting to Washington's major league camp. It appears he'll start the year in AAA Syracuse. He's been mediocre for a couple years now (.248 average in 2010 and 2011) so even if he does get the call up to the majors, he won't be putting up All-Star numbers. Even in a deep league, Nady isn't worth it.

Description: The Diamondbacks expect Xavier Nady to get 400-500 at-bats between 1B and LF. SOURCE: STEVE GILBERT
Insight: Call us skeptical. Combine his track record of injuries with his below average, declining skills and we think 300 at-bats is a better bet.

12/16/2010 1:01:00 AM
Description: SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year deal with Nady.
Insight: The former Cub is expected to play outfield and first base for Arizona but figures to be hard-pressed to carve out an everyday role. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Arizona is interested in signing Xavier Nady. SOURCE: JON HEYMAN
Insight: They have looked at better options like Derrek Lee but players of that stature would block Brandon Allen for another year. Nady could be a stopgap for the start of the season or work in a platoon.

8/19/2010 2:53:00 PM
Description: The Chicago Tribune reports Nady is expected to share time at first base for the Cubs with Derrek Lee being traded to Atlanta.
Insight: Nady could be worth a look in NL-only leagues. Jeff Baker and Micah Hoffpauir could also be in the mix for playing time at first base. (SportsBuff.com)

6/18/2010 10:18:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Sun Times reports Nady was able to throw from the outfield without pain or discomfort on Thursday for the first time all season.
Insight: Nady has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He is hitting .265 with four home runs and 19 RBI this season, and given the glut of outfielders the Cubs have there is a decent chance he could be traded before the deadline. (SportsBuff.com)

6/3/2010 11:36:00 AM
Description: Carrie Muskrat of MLB.com reports the Cubs have not discussed trading Nady or 1B Derrek Lee to the Angels.
Insight: Reports have suggested Nady is being targeted by the Angels or the Cubs and Angels may have had discussions regarding Lee. Either guy, or perhaps both, could wind up being traded if the Cubs continue to struggle. (SportsBuff.com)

6/2/2010 12:05:00 AM
Description: Nady went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI against the Pirates on Tuesday night.
Insight: Nady provided most of the Cubs' offense in the game, and is now hitting .263 with three home runs and 13 RBI this season. (SportsBuff.com)

5/26/2010 2:04:00 PM
Description: The Chicago Tribune reports the Cubs say they will begin to increase Nady's playing time.
Insight: The team had been cautious with Nady, who is coming off Tommy John surgery. He is still likely to see most of his playing time against left-handed starters. (SportsBuff.com)

4/15/2010 3:45:00 PM
Description: ESPN Chicago.com reports that, during a radio appearance, Nady (elbow) said that playing the outfield without being able to throw a long distance has been "awkward."
Insight: Nady is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and is being eased into outfield work. (SportsBuff.com)

4/12/2010 6:47:00 PM
Description: Nady (elbow) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run on Monday against the Brewers.
Insight: Nady started the game in right field, then moved to first base when Derrek Lee (thumb) left the game. He is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery, so he could play regularly at first if Lee's thumb continues to bother him. (SportsBuff.com)

4/9/2010 11:33:00 PM
Description: Nady started in right field on Friday night against the Reds and went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk. He was also hit by a pitch twice.
Insight: Nady is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, and appears to still be a work in progress in regards to getting his outfield vibe back. (SportsBuff.com)

4/5/2010 10:37:00 AM
Description: Nady (elbow) may get a couple starts a week in LF in place of Alfonso Soriano.
Insight: Nady seems to be all the way back from last year's elbow surgery, and could see some playing time in a crowded Cubs' outfield. (SportsBuff.com)

3/26/2010 12:45:00 AM
Description: Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun Times reports, via Twitter, that a precautionary x-ray on Nady's right hand came back negative.
Insight: Nady was hit by a pitch during a minor league game on Wednesday, but apparently only suffered a bruise. He is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, so he is still likely to be limited early in the season. (SportsBuff.com)

3/25/2010 10:06:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Sun Times reports Nady (elbow) played in the outfield for the first time this spring.
Insight: Nady's throwing is still being limited, so it's uncertain how much he'll play once the season starts. He was also hit in the hand by a pitch in the game, but that does not appear to be a concern. (SportsBuff.com)

3/24/2010 9:43:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Sun Times reports Nady (elbow) is expected to make his spring debut in the outfield on Thursday in a minor league game.
Insight: Nady still has limitations on his throwing as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He may be ready for Opening Day, but without the DH in the NL he may not see a lot of playing time early in the season if he continues to have limits put on his throwing. (SportsBuff.com)

3/11/2010 12:49:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Tribune reports Cubs' manager Lou Piniella said Nady (elbow) will not be ready for regular outfield duty until June.
Insight: Nady is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, so he will be used primarily as a pinch-hitter early in the season. (SportsBuff.com)

3/8/2010 4:32:00 PM
Description: MLB.com reports Nady (right elbow) is expected to start on Thursday.
Insight: Nady is recovering from Tommy John surgery, so he looks likely to just DH on Thursday. He should be able to play in the outfield at some point. (SportsBuff.com)
