Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton did not build upon his performance in Cincinnati last week.
Insight: Owners were hoping Newton would be able to repeat, or at least get close, to his 200-plus passing yards, 100-plus rushing yards and three totals touchdowns, which he had in Cincinnati last week. Against Green Bay, however, Newton threw for 205 yards, gained 41 yards on the ground, threw a touchdown and pick.

Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton came to life in Sunday's tie against the Bengals.
Insight: Carolina's coaching staff finally let him loose, as he had 107 rushing yards, along with one touchdown on the ground. Newton added 284 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air as well, but did have one interception. If this is the Newton we will continue to see, he is a sure-fire QB1, moving forward.

Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton struggled early but led the Carolina comeback over Chicago to win, 31-24, in Week 5.
Insight: The Carolina defense certainly helped as well as they held Chicago to just one field goal in the second half. Newton went 19-for-35 with 255 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He looked a bit healthier as he rolled out on more option plays in Week 5 than in previous weeks.

9/28/2014 5:24:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finished 14-of-25 for 197 yards and one touchdown in the loss against the Ravens.
Insight: It is clear that Newton is still not one-hundred percent healthy. The Ravens made things worse with constant pressure all day. With Newton unable to move around effectively in the pocket and no healthy running backs, Newton is not a wise fantasy start.

9/14/2014 5:49:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finished 22-for-34 with 281 passing yards and one touchdown in Carolina's victory over Detroit in Week 2.
Insight: Newton also rushed for 19 yards and almost scored. The quarterback did not look limited in his return from the rib injury.

9/10/2014 4:01:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs), ruled out of last Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, was back at practice Wednesday.
Insight: That's a great sign and fantasy owners should expect him to play in Week 2 against the Lions.

9/7/2014 3:17:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Derek Anderson will get the start. If you have anyone on the Panthers offense, they take a major fantasy hit for Week 1. On the other hand, the Tampa Bay defense is a sneaky good start for Week 1.

9/5/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) was part of throwing drills in Friday's practice.
Insight: Since he didn't throw on Thursday, this is good news for fantasy owners. Time is getting short and it appears he'll end up being a game-time decision.

9/4/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) told the media on Thursday that he doesn't "want to put this team in jeopardy (if he is not healthy)" and then went on to praise his offense saying "One monkey don't stop the show" according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
Insight: Although fantasy owners may have had their own speculation, this is the first time anyone from the Panthers has hinted that Newton might not play Week 1. Newton did also say he has never missed a game at any level in his career, but the fact he has put some doubt in our minds is some cause for concern this Sunday.

9/4/2014 1:53:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) participated in just portions of Thursday's practice as he was limited to just handoffs.
Insight: It is not a good sign that three days before the opener Newton was not throwing at all. We still expect him to be out there, probably wearing a flak jacket for protection, but in deep leagues with one starting quarterback, owners can find a better starting quarterback for Week 1.

8/27/2014 12:55:00 PM
Description: According to the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said there's "no doubt" Cam Newton will play Week 1 despite his rib injury.
Insight: Newton has a hairline fracture in a few of his ribs, but normally, quarterbacks can play through this type of injury. Rivera also added that the zone-read will still be in play despite the injury. All good signs for Newton, but we will keep an eye on the situation the next week and a half.

8/24/2014 8:17:00 PM
Description: According to the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers don't expect to know quarterback Cam Newton's status for Week 1 until next week. Newton sustained a hairline fracture in one of his ribs Saturday night.
Insight: Coach Ron Rivera said Newton won't play in the final preseason game, but he expects him to play in the season opener at Tampa Bay. In addition to the injury to his ribs, Newton is still recovering from offseason ankle surgery and his rushing output could be lean early in the season. Derek Anderson is Newton's backup.

8/24/2014 6:48:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has a hairline fracture in his ribs, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
Insight: Newton took a shot to the ribs during Saturday's preseason game. He won't play in the fourth exhibition contest, but coach Ron Rivera thinks he'll be ready for Week 1. In addition to the injury to his ribs, Newton is still recovering from offseason ankle surgery and his rushing output could be lean early in the season.

8/23/2014 7:30:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suffered a back bruise late in the second quarter against the New England Patriots on Friday. Newton underwent X-rays as a precaution according to ESPN, and head coach Ron Rivera said they came back negative.
Insight: The bruise happened when Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins nailed Newton in the back after the quarterback scrambled seven yards. Newton entered the game with questions about his ankle due to offseason surgery. Rivera expects both Newton's back and ankle to be fine by Week 1.

8/10/2014 7:45:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN.com, the Panthers have medically cleared Cam Newton (ankle) to play in their second preseason game next Sunday against the Chiefs.
Insight: Newton was also given clearance during Sunday's practice to run the read option for the first time since training camp began. He's been rehabbing from left ankle surgery since March. The fourth-year quarterback has top-three fantasy QB upside, but he's going 10th among quarterbacks at an ADP of 82.

8/8/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: The Panthers held quarterback Cam Newton (ankle surgery) out of the first preseason game Friday night.
Insight: Newton is dealing with lingering pain from his ankle surgery. He described it as a "thump from your mom when you said something that you weren't supposed to. She'll thump you dead in your ear or on your head. It'll hurt for that little second but it'll go away after 2-3 minutes," according to the Charlotte Observer. Newton has a month to go before Week 1 so we aren't concerned yet, especially because the intention of the surgery was to strengthen his ligaments. He might run less early in the year, but he still has top-three fantasy QB upside and is being drafted 10th among quarterbacks.

5/13/2014 6:43:00 PM
Description: Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle surgery) is out of his walking boot and ready to begin his rehab work, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
Insight: Newton was given a four-month timetable when he had left ankle surgery in mid-March. He's not expected to resume practicing before training camp, but his health won't be a concern when the season starts. Newton's supporting cast, however, may be an issue after Steve Smith signed with the Ravens and LT Jordan Gross retired. The Panthers drafted 6-foot-5 receiver Kelvin Benjamin out of Florida State with the 28th-overall pick in the 2014 draft, but he may not be ready to make an immediate impact.

3/25/2014 9:42:00 PM
Description: Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle surgery) is unlikely to practice before training camp, GM Dave Gettleman said Tuesday during a radio appearance.
Insight: Newton was given a four-month timetable when he had ankle surgery last week. When it comes to Newton's fantasy value, we're far more concerned about Carolina's receiving corps than the surgery.

Description: Panthers QB Cam Newton had successful ankle surgery on Wednesday. SOURCE: David Newton, ESPN
Insight: He's going to be out for the next four months. Newton has never missed a game in his NFL career. If the recovery takes longer than expected, Derek Anderson would open the year as Carolina's starting quarterback.

3/18/2014 4:30:00 PM
Description: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will undergo surgery on his left ankle. The procedure should keep him sidelined for about four months. SOURCE: Joe Person, Charlotte Observer
Insight: Newton frequently dealt with ankle problems last season though he didn't miss any games. The delay in surgery will put him on a tight schedule to make training camp in late July.
