Description: Tight end Fred Davis has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, the Redskins confirmed.
Insight: The suspension was reported as six games back in January, but it's actually much worse. Davis is about to become a free agent and will probably have trouble finding work. This is his second drug-related suspension.

Insight: It's Davis' second drug-related suspension. This news won't help him find a job in free agency. With Jordan Reed emerging as Washington's top tight end, a reunion with the Redskins seems unlikely.

Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis is inactive for Week 9 against San Diego.
Insight: Davis is no longer fantasy worthy with Jordan Reed having emerged as the team's No. 1 tight end.

Description: The Redskins are looking to trade tight end Fred Davis. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Jordan Reed has emerged as the team's No. 1 tight end, which makes Davis expendable. Davis has just three catches for 25 yards this season.

10/20/2013 12:17:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis is a healthy inactive Sunday against the Bears.
Insight: Davis was surpassed on the depth chart by Jordan Reed and can be dropped in all fantasy leagues. Reed is a sleeper tight end option this week.

Cold9/22/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis (ankle) is out Sunday.
Insight: Davis fully participated in practice all week but was added to the injury report Saturday. Fantasy owners can ignore Davis, who has just two catches this season, and his backup Jordan Reed.

Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game.
Insight: Davis fully participated in practice all week but was added to the injury report Saturday. Fantasy owners can ignore Davis even if he plays after he was benched in Week 2 for missing blocking assignments. He only has two catches in two games.

Cold9/18/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis was benched in Sunday's game versus Green Bay and ended up playing just 16 of 61 snaps.
Insight: Third-round rookie Jordan Reed was on the field for 29 plays. Davis caught one ball for three yards and while Reed wasn't much better, but he could be the guy going forward.

8/1/2013 6:25:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis hasn't displayed any ill effects from the ruptured Achilles' tendon that knocked him out for the last nine games of the 2012 season, according to the Washington Post.
Insight: Davis was cleared to practice fully when camp began, and six practices in the Post says he "appears to have recaptured his speed and explosiveness." Prior to his injury, Davis wasn't a favorite target of Robert Griffin III but still was on pace for 54 catches and 742 yards. An already shallow tight end group was decimated further by Aaron Hernandez' arrest and Dennis Pitta's season-ending injury, so Davis could end up being a valuable commodity.

3/29/2013 9:07:00 PM
Description: After visiting with several teams, TE Fred Davis has decided to re-sign with the Redskins for one year.
Insight: Davis only played seven games last season due to a torn Achilles and saw a decline in production when he was active. Even though No. 1 receiver Pierre Garcon was injured early in the season, Davis was not heavily targeted by Robert Griffin III.

10/22/2012 10:42:00 AM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis will miss the remainder of the 2012 season after tearing his Achilles Sunday against New York.
Insight: Washington is close to re-signing veteran Chris Cooley to take over for the injured Davis. In seven games this season, Davis had 24 catches for 325 yards.

10/21/2012 3:10:00 PM
Description: Washington tight end Fred Davis will not return to Sunday's game against the Giants. He suffered an Achilles injury in the first half.
Insight: Next up on the Redskins' tight end depth chart is Niles Paul. We don't expect him to have much of an impact in the second half.

10/21/2012 1:38:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis left the Giants game in the first quarter with an apparent left Achilles problem and the latest update is that he is not expected to return.
Insight: Davis has been one of Robert Griffin III's favorite targets this season, entering Week 6 with 23 receptions for 312 yards. His return is questionable.

Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis left the Giants game in the first quarter with an apparent left ankle sprain.
Insight: Davis has been one of Robert Griffin III's favorite targets this season, entering Week 6 with 23 receptions for 312 yards. His return is questionable.

9/23/2012 5:01:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis benefitted from Pierre Garcon's absence in Week 3, catching seven passes for 90 yards.
Insight: Davis had failed to develop chemistry with rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III in the first two weeks, catching only four passes for 52 yards. He's unlikely to have many weeks like Week 3 once Garcon returns.

9/19/2012 2:37:00 PM
Description: According to a Washington Post report, Redskins tight end Fred Davi, who suffered a possible concussion in the Week 2 game against St. Louis, has been cleared to play in Week 3 against Cincinnati.
Insight: Davis reportedly wasn't targeted that much by Robert Griffin III in practice and during the preseason, but has been targeted nine times in two games which is tied for the team lead. He has four receptions for 52 yards.

9/17/2012 4:10:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis suffered a concussion in the Week 2 game against St. Louis and will need to pass a battery of tests before being allowed to play in Week 3 against Cincinnati.
Insight: Davis reportedly wasn't targeted that much by Robert Griffin III in practice and during the preseason, and he hasn't been much of a factor in the season's first two games. Davis has been targeted just nine times and has four receptions for 52 yards.

9/9/2012 6:06:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis was only targeted four times Sunday against the Saints. He caught two passes for 38 yards in the game, Robert Griffin III's first.
Insight: Davis reportedly wasn't targeted that much by Griffin in practice and during the preseason, and that continued Sunday. He's a low-end TE1 at this point.

8/14/2012 9:40:00 PM
Description: Redskins tight end Fred Davis reportedly hasn't been a "favored target" of rookie QB Robert Griffin III in training camp, according to the Washington Examiner. CSNWashington corroborated that, saying "It's time to say that Davis isn't having a great camp for someone who is supposed to have a breakout season."
Insight: Davis emerged as a mid-tier tight end in 2011, catching 59 passes for 796 yards and three scores in 12 games before being suspended for the final four games of the season after failing multiple drug tests. Davis is playing for a new contract this season, but he hasn't gotten off to a good start. We'll have to see if Davis and Griffin jell in the final three exhibition games.
