Description: New England has officially placed injured linebacker Jerod Mayo (torn pectoral muscle) on injured reserve.
Insight: His season is over. It's been a devastating year for the Patriots injury-wise with Vince Wilfork, Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and Mayo all hurt (Stevan Ridley also missed a game earlier this year) but somehow Bill Belichick's squad still has the NFL's third-best record at 5-1. Rookie Jamie Collins (six tackles, one fumble recovery) is next up on New England's depth chart at weakside linebacker.

Description: Patriots LB Jerod Mayo could miss the rest of the season after having surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Insight: Mayo is the Patriots' leading tackler with 55 total, but he's unlikely to play the rest of this season. Mayo is the second major player the Pats have lost on defense in the past few weeks after Vince Wilfork suffered a torn Achilles.

Insight: He was supposed to be out another month with his sprained MCL, so he's ahead of schedule and it's a great sign that he's at practice. It's still a longshot that he plays against Dallas, but a great sign nonetheless and is great news for the New England defense.

Description: New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo will likely miss up to six weeks with a knee injury. SOURCE: BOSTON HERALD
Insight: Mayo suffered the injury in Week 4 vs. the Raiders and did not return to that game. The good news is it's not a torn ligament, but the bad news is he's worthless for the next month-and-a-half and who knows how healthy he'll be when he comes back. Honestly, he's droppable in all IDP formats.

Description: Patriots ILB Jerod Mayo had the best season of his career, earning a Pro Bowl nod and leading the league by a wide margin with 174 tackles.
Insight: A recent report by Football Outsiders showed us just how efficient Mayo was last season. According to their analysis, Mayo missed only one tackle out of 118 solos... and that was with three new starters joining him in the linebacking corps. Impressive.

Description: According to Chris Gasper of the Boston Globe, Mayo's right knee injury is not as serious as Tom Brady' torn left ACL from 2008.
Insight: There's has been no official word on the extent of Mayo's injury, but he was injured in the first quarter and never returned to Monday night's game against Buffalo. Being as this is the Patriots, don't hold your breath for any specifics to come out until they absolutely have to. Losing Mayo for an extended period of time would be a huge blow to the Patriots' defense. (
