NFL Game Summary - Oakland at San Diego

(Sunday, December 5th)

Final Score: Oakland 28, San Diego 13

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Jason Campbell threw for a score and ran one in as the Oakland Raiders took a 28-13 win over the San Diego Chargers in an AFC West battle.

Oakland (6-6) and San Diego (6-6) now sit even at two games behind Kansas City for first place in the division. San Diego hosts the Chiefs next Sunday while Oakland plays at AFC South-leading Jacksonville.

Campbell finished the game 10-for-16 with 117 yards and added 37 yards on seven carries as the Raiders snapped a two-game slide. Darren McFadden scored on the ground and totaled 97 yards on 19 carries while catching three balls for 30 yards. Michael Bush ran the ball 23 times for 95 yards and a score.

"We have to bring this level of play week in and week out," said Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour. "I just think we've been inconsistent lately.

"If this team shows up that showed up today, we're capable of beating anybody. But this same team has to show up."

Philip Rivers was 23-for-39 for 280 yards, one touchdown and one interception as the Chargers had a four-game winning streak snapped. Antonio Gates caught six passes for 73 yards and a score.

The Chargers' run of 18 straight December victories, which tied an NFL record for most victories in any month, was snapped. The Miami Dolphins had won 18 straight in Novembers from 1970-74.

Down by 15 points in the fourth quarter, the Chargers cut into their deficit with a six-play, 80-yard drive that was capped on a Rivers pass to a wide open Gates from four yards out to make it a 21-13 game with 9:59 to play.

Oakland, though, came right back and put the game away. The drive looked to be a three-and-out as San Diego stuffed Oakland on third down, but a defensive holding call gave the Raiders a fresh start. A 37-yard reception by Louis Murphy on a play-action fake from Campbell set the Raiders up at the Chargers' nine. McFadden then bulled his way into the end zone around the left side from seven yards out for a 28-13 advantage with 4:35 to play.

San Diego got close to midfield but couldn't convert a 4th-and-10, and Oakland killed the rest of the clock.

The Raiders were forced to punt on their first touch, but Darren Sproles muffed the catch and Oakland recovered at the San Diego 18. Four plays later on 4th-and-1 at the nine, Campbell faked the handoff to the right and rolled into the end zone untouched for a 7-0 lead with 8:35 left in the first.

Rivers was picked off by Michael Huff on San Diego's ensuing possession to give Oakland the ball back at the Chargers 41. It was 14-0 for the visitors as Campbell lofted a pass to the right corner of the end zone where Jacoby Ford came down with it on a four-yard score with 30 seconds left in the first.

The Chargers responded on their next touch with a 39-yard field goal from Nate Kaeding to make it a 14-3 game with 11:05 left in the half.

The Raiders got into the end zone again on their following possession as Bush broke two tackles on a run up the middle for a seven-yard score for a 21-3 lead with 4:07 to go. The 11-play, 80-yard drive featured a nine-yard run from Campbell on 3rd-and-8 two plays before the score.

San Diego tried a 50-yard field goal attempt from Kaeding on their final possession of the first half, but it fell short.

On their second drive of the second half, San Diego got a 33-yard field goal from Kaeding to make it a 21-6 game with 44 seconds left in the quarter.
