Final Score: Tennessee 30, Jacksonville 3
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Bo Scaife and Kenny Britt each caught a touchdown pass, as the Tennessee Titans dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 30-3, in a game that saw both starting quarterbacks leave due to injury.
Vince Young completed 3-of-5 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown before leaving with a sprained left knee. Kerry Collins connected on 11-of-16 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in relief for the Titans (4-2), who were coming off a 34-27 win over Dallas last weekend.
"You just never know. That's part of the life as a backup in the NFL," Collins said. "I just try to take the same approach I've always taken."
Chris Johnson carried the ball 26 times for 111 yards and a score for Tennessee, which is now tied with Indianapolis and Houston atop the AFC South. Johnson now has 100-plus yards rushing in eight consecutive road games.
David Garrard completed 7-of-12 passes for 49 yards and an interception before exiting with a concussion for the Jaguars (3-3), who saw a two-game winning streak come to an end. Trent Edwards, who began the season as the starting quarterback for the Bills, connected on 14-of-24 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions in relief.
Maurice Jones-Drew was limited to 57 yards on 17 carries. Mike Thomas hauled in eight passes for 88 yards in defeat.
"We expected to play well," Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said. "We understand it doesn't always go the way you want. We've got some work to do."
The Titans needed just six plays and 2:26 to get on the board. Britt caught a 10-yard pass on third down to give Tennessee a fresh set of downs at its own 33. Scaife followed with a 28-yard reception, and following a Johnson one-yard run and 15-yard face mask penalty, Young connected with Britt on a 23-yard score for a 7-0 lead.
Young sprained his left knee on the next Titans possession. Faced with a 2nd- and-10 from Tennessee's 20, Young fumbled the snap. He was able to recover the football quickly, but seemed to fumble the ball again. Meanwhile, Young's left knee bent back in a weird way as multiple players piled on top of him. Jacksonville was awarded the football on the field, but replay showed Young was down before fumbling the ball again. Collins took over at quarterback for the Titans.
Garrard was intercepted by Michael Griffin early in the second quarter. Tennessee capitalized with an eight-play, 37-yard drive. Faced with a 3rd- and-2 from the 13, Collins threw a 12-yard pass to Scaife. Three plays later, Scaife hauled in a two-yard TD pass near the left pylon for a 14-0 lead with 8:22 to go until half.
On the ensuing Jacksonville possession, Garrard took a hard hit from Will Witherspoon. Garrard suffered a concussion on the play and did not return to the game.
Rob Bironas' 26-yard field goal made it a 17-0 game with 2:09 remaining.
Edwards and Jacksonville seemed as if they were ready to score before the half. However, Marcedes Lewis fumbled the ball at the Tennessee 10-yard line.
On the third play of the second half, Edwards was picked off by Alterraun Verner, who returned the ball to the Jacksonville 33. Bironas made a 33-yard field goal to make it 20-0.
The Jaguars responded with a nine-play, 50-yard drive that Josh Scobee capped with a 33-yard field goal for a 20-3 contest with 7:05 to go in the third.
Tennessee bridged the third and fourth frames with a 12-play, 55-yard drive. Bironas capped the march with a 36-yard field goal to give the Titans a 23-3 lead.
Johnson extended his streak with a late 35-yard TD run.
Tennessee leads the all-time regular season series with the Jaguars, 18-13, including a conventional split of last year's home-and-home.
