Blake Bortles signs with Jaguars
Jacksonville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Bortles, the first quarterback selected in last month's NFL Draft, signed his rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.
The Florida Times-Union reported the four-year deal is worth slightly more than $20.6 million and includes a fifth-year team option.
Bortles, the third overall pick, will also receive a $13.34 million signing bonus, according to the paper.
"We are excited to get Blake under contract as we finish up minicamp," Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said in a statement. "Blake has progressed really well this offseason and has brought a great attitude to work each day. He is highly competitive and very passionate about football. He knows where he needs to get better and is willing to do the work. He's a down to earth guy, a blue collar guy and he just wants to be the best he can be."
The Central Florida product was the offensive player of the year in the American Athletic Conference in 2013 after throwing for 3,581 yards and 25 touchdowns.
