Vikings WR Simpson arrested on drunk driving charge
Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson was arrested Saturday morning on a drunk driving charge.
Hennepin County jail records show Simpson being booked at 5:39 a.m. CT on Saturday morning.
The Vikings said they were aware of the incident and issued a brief statement.
"We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time," the team said.
Simpson has had off-field issues in the past. He was suspended for the first three games of the 2012 season after a drug conviction earlier that year.
In April 2012, a Kentucky judge sentenced Simpson to 15 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge. The previous September, when Simpson played for Cincinnati, police confiscated a package containing 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana that was being shipped from California to Simpson's Kentucky home.
Simpson is the Vikings' second-leading receiver this season with 33 catches and leads the club with 491 receiving yards in nine games.
