Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Zac Stacy tallied 171 total yards and a touchdown as the Vanderbilt Commodores made easy work of the Tennessee Volunteers, 41-18, in SEC action at Vanderbilt Stadium.
Stacy finished with 17 rushes for 85 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for 86 yards for Vanderbilt (7-4, 5-3 SEC). Jordan Rodgers completed 13-of-26 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jordan Matthews caught seven passes for 115 yards and a score, and he also had a 47-yard rushing touchdown.
For Tennessee (4-7, 0-7), Tyler Bray went just 11-of-29 passing for 103 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions before being spelled for Justin Worley (8- of-11, 51 yards, INT). Marlin Lane rushed for 108 yards on 16 carries, and Zach Rogers caught just one pass but it went for a 14-yard touchdown.
Vanderbilt opened the game with a 72-yard completion from Rodgers to Stacy, but it stalled in the red zone and had to settle for a 19-yard field goal from Carey Spear. It would be the only score of the opening quarter.
Tennessee took the lead early in the second quarter when Bray connected with Rodgers for a score. The Commodores answered with 10 consecutive points, adding another Spear field goal (27 yards) and an 11-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Chris Boyd to take a 13-7 lead with just over three minutes to play in the half.
The Vols chipped away at the deficit in the waning seconds of the half with a Michael Palardy 28-yard field goal.
The Commodores struck big to start the second half with two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the third quarter. First, Matthews rushed in his long touchdown, then Wesley Tate tossed a three-yard scoring strike to Kris Kentera to give Vanderbilt a 27-10 lead.
Stacy rushed in a score from 10 yards out late in the third quarter, and Rodgers connected with Matthews on a 71-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, as the Commodores further extended their lead.
Cordarrelle returned a punt 81 yards for the Vols late in the game, but it was too little, too late.
Vanderbilt held Tennessee to just 303 yards of offense, and the Vols converted just 2-of-15 third down attempts.
