Final Score: Vanderbilt 40, Kentucky 0
Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Five different Vanderbilt players scored touchdowns, as the Commodores rolled to a 40-0 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in Southeastern Conference play at Commonwealth Stadium.
Jordan Rodgers completed 18-of-29 passes for 220 yards and two TDs for the Commodores (5-4, 3-3 SEC), who picked up their third straight win and need one victory more to become bowl eligible.
The Wildcats (1-9, 0-7) lost for the eighth consecutive time and never really threatened in this one. Patrick Towles and Jalen Whitlow combined to complete just 13-of-35 passes for 159 yards, while Jonathan George paced the ground game with 44 yards on 14 carries.
Vanderbilt grabbed a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, as Rodgers connected with Jordan Matthews for a 34-yard touchdown pass.
The score would remain that way until the opening minute of the second quarter, when Wesley Tate capped a nine-play, 67-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
The Commodores managed to tack on two more scores before the half. Chris Boyd accounted for one of those scores with a 30-yard touchdown reception from Rodgers with 3:38 to play until halftime. After forcing a three-and-out, Vandy got the ball back to set up Zac Stacy's two-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds on the clock.
A 33-yard touchdown run by Brian Kimbrow represented the only points of the third quarter, and Vanderbilt kicker Carey Spear added to the margin with two fourth-quarter field goals (40, 48 yards).
The shutout victory was Vanderbilt's second of the season. The last time the Commodores held two opponents scoreless in the same season was 1964.
