Oklahoma dismisses RB Williams
Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops announced Monday that senior running back Damien Williams has been dismissed from the program for an unspecified violation of team policy.
Williams, the Sooners' second-leading rusher with 553 yards this season, had been suspended for last Saturday's game at Kansas State for breaking a team rule.
Sources told Oklahoma City television station KFOR that Williams was kicked off the squad for failing multiple drug tests.
Williams topped the Sooners with 946 rushing yards last season, his first with Oklahoma after transferring from junior college Arizona Western. The San Diego native added 34 catches for 320 yards and scored 12 total touchdowns to earn second team All-Big 12 honors.
Brennan Clay took over lead back duties against Kansas State and ran for a career-high 200 yards in the Sooners' 41-31 win over the Wildcats.
The 20th-ranked Sooners are on a bye this week before closing out their regular season at No. 7 Oklahoma State on Dec. 7.
