Argos release K Prefontaine

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Argonauts released kicker Noel Prefontaine on Tuesday.

Prefontaine, who suffered from a hip injury for a good chunk of this past season which forced him to take a turn on the nine-game injured list in mid- July, averaged 42.9 yards per punt and connected on 10-of-15 field goal attempts over seven games in 2012.

"We'd like to thank Noel for his professionalism and his winning attitude as a member of the Argonauts," said Toronto general manager Jim Barker. "Releasing a player like Noel is never easy but making this move, at this time, gives him a chance to explore all other CFL opportunities that may be available. We wish him continued success in the future."

Prefontaine suited up for 198 of his 235 CFL games with the Double Blue, and was a member of two Grey Cup winners with the Argos, including their Nov. 25 triumph over Calgary at Rogers Centre.

"I want to thank the Toronto Argonauts organization, my teammates and Argos fans for all of their support," Prefontaine said. "Toronto is my home, but given current circumstances I need to take this opportunity to explore all of the options that could be available. I look forward to continuing my CFL career as an impact player."
