Walters named Blue Bombers' GM
Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers named Kyle Walters general manager on Tuesday.
Walters had been serving as the club's acting GM since the dismissal of Joe Mack in August.
"Kyle is a strong leader with a wealth of knowledge of the Canadian Football League," Blue Bombers president and CEO Wade Miller said in a statement. "His professionalism and great desire to win make him exactly what this organization needs in its next general manager."
Walters was an assistant GM and director of Canadian scouting with Winnipeg prior to being appointed the acting GM on Aug. 13.
"This is a great honor to represent fans across the province as the general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers," Walters said in a statement. "This franchise is embedded in our community and I'm very excited to steer us in the right direction moving forward."
The Blue Bombers finished the 2013 season with a league-worst 3-15 record.
"No stone will go unturned, in any regard, in making this team better," Walters added. "My goal for this team is to be competitive on a weekly basis, make the playoffs and be an annual contender."
