Winnipeg's new stadium hosts 2013 CFL opener
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Canadian Football League will kick off its 2013 season on June 27 with the unveiling of Winnipeg's new stadium.
The Blue Bombers will begin play at Investors Group Field against Montreal to start the new season.
Arch-rivals Toronto and Hamilton will square off on June 28 at Rogers Centre, as the Argonauts begin defense of their Grey Cup title. Later that evening, British Columbia will visit Grey Cup runner-up Calgary, while Saturday's season-opening finale will pit Saskatchewan at Edmonton.
"This is going to be an incredibly exciting time for the CFL, as we build on the momentum of the celebration of the 100th Grey Cup in 2012 by launching the next 100 years of great Canadian football," said CFL commissioner Mark Cohon.
As Winnipeg opens a new stadium, Hamilton will play eight of its nine home games at the University of Guelph while construction of its new home continues. The Tiger-Cats will start play in their new stadium in 2014.
The other Hamilton home game will take place in Moncton, New Brunswick on Sept. 21 against Montreal.
Labour Day weekend traditions continue when Saskatchewan hosts Winnipeg and Edmonton visits Calgary.
The final four weekends of the season will feature only divisional rivalries, leading to the start of the playoffs on Nov. 10. The Division Finals will take place the following week with the 101st Grey Cup championship set for Nov. 24 in Saskatchewan.
