GAME NOTES: Worthen Arena will play host to its 300th game, when the Ball State Cardinals welcome the Wofford Terriers to Muncie on Friday night.
Wofford is coming off a lopsided 87-54 rout of Webber International that evened its record at 1-1. One of the top teams in the Southern Conference the last few seasons, the Terriers may find getting to the top of the conference a little harder in 2012-13.
The Cardinals are fresh off a season-opening victory over Grambling State. Billy Taylor's squad went 15-15 a season ago, which was considered a poor campaign in retrospect. Needing to replace three starters from that team will take some time.
This is the second all-time meeting between these two squads, with Wofford taking the first matchup 66-61 in 2011. This will be the first time the teams square off in Muncie.
The Terriers fell to Colorado 74-59 in their season opener but bounced back with a dominating victory over Webber International. Wofford shot 1-of-15 from three-point range in the first half but recovered in the second half, hitting 7-of-11 from long range. Karl Cochran recorded 25 points in the win. He leads the team in scoring after the first two games, averaging 23.5 ppg and has hit nine three pointers thus far. Spencer Collins has averaged 16.0 ppg, while Lee Skinner has put up 10.0 ppg, while grabbing a healthy 8.5 rpg. If Cochran continues his early offensive groove, Wofford could be trouble for Ball State.
The Cardinals got off to a great start this season with a rout of the Grambling State Tigers. Ball State had five players score in double figures, led by Jesse Berry's 17 points, fueled by a 4-of-6 effort from deep. Other notable performances were Majok Majok, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Marcus Posley, who added 12 points and six assists off the bench. Ball State did a good job of spreading the ball around in their first game and if they continue to do so they will be a tough team in the MAC this season.
The Terriers have shown two different sides in their first two games and with Ball State's offense showing some promise, their 300th game at Worthen Arena should end in victory.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Ball State 78, Wofford 65
