Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Shaquille Stokes hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining as the Hofstra Pride defeated the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 66-63, at the Mack Sports Complex, on opening night of the Hempstead subregional of the 2K Sports Classic.

For the Jackrabbits (1-2), Nate Wolters posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Brayden Carlson added 12 points.

In the first half, Hofstra shot 41.4 percent from the field, but just 2-of-9 from three-point range. South Dakota State managed to connect only 36.7 percent of its field goal attempts, including 2-of-12 from beyond the arc, but it was able to cling to a 32-31 lead at the break.

Both teams improved their shooting in the second, with the Pride making 45.2 percent from the field and the Jackrabbits hitting on 50 percent. Hofstra took the lead early in the second and led throughout most of the half, but never by more than five point. A Wolters three-pointer with 32 seconds to play knotted the score at 63-63. After Stokes hit the eventual game winner, a three-point attempt by Carlson at the buzzer was no good.
