Chivas USA (1-5-3) at Colorado (4-2-3), 3 p.m.
Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids will hope to continue their dominance over Chivas USA on Sunday when the Rapids welcome the Goats to Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Colorado's last loss against Chivas came on March 21, 2009, with the club going 8-0-3 against the Goats since that time.
Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin was largely to thank for the Rapids claiming a 0-0 draw at San Jose on Wednesday as he made seven saves and denied Chris Wondolowski late in the match by tipping his shot onto the post to preserve a point for his side.
Head coach Pablo Mastroeni was pleased with the overall effort of his team, and was happy to come away from San Jose with a point.
"I think we came in with the right mindset: try and go at them," Mastroeni said of his team's strategy against the Earthquakes. "We had a few chances at goal in the first half, had a few in the second half and I think most importantly that the effort was there, the mindset was there, the mentality was there, and they fought hard to get a point in a really tough place to play."
Mastroeni can certainly be pleased with the effort as well as the performance of his defense, but the boss has to be a bit concerned with his team's lack of goals over the past month.
The Rapids have scored just three goals in their last five matches, while Vicente Sanchez leads the club with five goals, including four from the penalty spot.
Outside of Sanchez, only Jose Mari has scored more than once this season in league play for the Rapids, with Mastroeni needing more production from forwards Deshorn Brown and Edson Buddle.
Chivas has plenty of problems of its own in front of goal with the club having failed to score more than one goal in any of its last eight games.
After a 3-2 win over Chicago to open the season, Chivas has yet to duplicate that kind of performance, and the club is still searching for its first clean sheet of the season, which will be a help to Colorado's struggling attack.
