Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids snapped a three- game winless run by cruising to a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Impact at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday.
The Rapids were in front after only five minutes when Sanna Nyassi was whistled for tugging down Edson Buddle in the box, allowing Dillon Powers to convert on the ensuing penalty attempt for his first goal of the season.
Deshorn Brown nearly doubled Colorado's advantage in the 31st minute when he broke free on goal, but the Rapids striker sent his powerful shot off the base of the post.
Montreal spurned a chance to go level five minutes into the second half, but Justin Mapp curled his shot off the woodwork from the edge of the box.
The Impact would be left to rue that miss as Colorado went on to grab two goals in the span of four minutes and a late goal six minutes from time to collect an emphatic victory.
Kamani Hill struck in the 54th minute with a sublime curling effort that nestled into the upper corner while Shane O'Neill made it three shortly after, taking a failed clearance and ripping a shot into the upper corner from the top of the penalty area.
Powers tacked on a late strike off of an assist from Marlon Hairston while Andres Romero pulled back a consolation goal for Montreal in the 88th minute.
Montreal is winless in its last three contests to stay put at the foot of the overall MLS table with seven points for the season.
Colorado climbs to 18 points on the season.
