NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Nashville
(Thursday, November 28th)
Final Score: Edmonton 3, Nashville 0
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifty-one seconds. That's the time separating goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall in the second period, and it proved to be the difference in the Edmonton Oilers' 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Thanksgiving night.
Ilya Bryzgalov, making his first start as a member of the Oilers, turned away all 33 Nashville shots to record his 31st career shutout.
"It was great. Shutouts are always fun," Bryzgalov said.
Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins was obviously pleased with Bryzgalov's performance.
"Check marks across the board for him tonight. He did a great job," Eakins said.
Nugent-Hopkins redirected a perfect slap-pass from defenseman Jeff Petry 5:32 into the middle stanza. Hall then completed a 2-on-1 rush by collecting a feed from Sam Gagner and slipping a backhander through the five-hole of Nashville goaltender Marek Mazanec at 6:23.
Jordan Eberle added an empty-net goal for the Oilers, who have won four of their last five games.
Mazanec stopped 25 shots in defeat. The Predators were coming off consecutive wins.
"We talked before the game that we needed to get in the hard areas and throw some pucks, but obviously we didn't play hard enough in those hard areas," Predators head coach Barry Trotz said.
Predators defenseman Shea Weber left the game after taking a puck to the face late in the second period. He did not return with what the team announced was an upper-body injury ... Nashville was 0-for-2 on the power play ... The Predators have now been outscored 29-19 in the second period this season.
