NHL Game Summary - Boston at Vancouver
(Saturday, December 14th)
Final Score: Vancouver 6, Boston 2
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Henrik Sedin posted a goal and an assist while Roberto Luongo made 39 saves as the Vancouver Canucks routed the Boston Bruins, 6-2.
Yannick Weber, David Booth, Christopher Tanve, Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen all scored for the Canucks, who have run their winning streak to a season-high seven games.
"Boston is one of the best teams in the East. We didn't have to say anything about emotion pre-game. They were ready," said Canucks coach John Tortorella.
Reilly Smith scored both goals for the Bruins, who had a four-game winning run snapped.
Tuukka Rask was touched for four goals on 23 shots before getting pulled early in the second period. Chad Johnson gave up two goals on seven shots in relief.
"The final score was much different from the way I felt our team played," said Bruins coach Claude Julien. "They capitalized on their chances and we didn't."
This game was in stark contrast to the last time Boston played in Vancouver as on June 15, 2011, the Bruins took a 4-0 victory in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to claim their first championship since 1972.
Vancouver took a 1-0 lead at 16:37 of the first period on a slap shot that beat Rask for his fifth of the year.
Smith tied the game at 4:11 of the second period on a backhand, but Booth answered 1:20 later on his fourth of the season on a feed from Brad Richardson.
Higgins' wrister from the left circle after several shots in front at 8:46 of the second gave the Canucks a 3-1 lead.
The Canucks made it a 4-1 game just 1:34 into the third as Henrik Sedin sent a pass from the right boards to the high slot where Weber one-timed it home for his first goal in 43 games.
Skating on the power play, Vancouver padded its lead as Henrik Sedin took a feed at the left circle and slapped it in at 4:02.
Vancouver made it a 6-1 contest while shorthanded as Mike Santorellit skated in down the left side and passed it to the front where Tanev shot it home with 9:26 to play.
Smith scored on a shot from the left wing with 3:17 to play to cap the scoring in the game.
Vancouver hits the road for its next three games starting in Minnesota on Tuesday ... Boston returns home to face Calgary on Tuesday ... Vancouver has taken three of the last four regular-season games against Boston ... Vancouver went 1-for-2 on the power play while Boston was 0-for-3.
