Red Wings D Ericsson has successful surgery on finger
Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson's nightmare season continues.
On Wednesday, the 30-year-old backliner underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured finger. He also suffered a partially-torn tendon in the finger during Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Recovery puts his return in the 4-to-6 week range, meaning the Wings may have to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs before Ericsson could be fully healed.
The Swedish defenseman missed time in October and November due to the birth of his first child and a shoulder issue, then was sidelined for a month by broken ribs suffered just before Christmas.
He's compiled one goal and 10 assists in 48 appearances this season, his sixth in the NHL.
