Final Score: Utah 104, New Orleans 99
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and the Utah Jazz rebounded from the worst home loss in franchise history to edge the New Orleans Hornets, 104-99, on Wednesday.
The Jazz, two days removed from an embarrassing 125-80 loss to the Houston Rockets at EnergySolutions Arena, shot 50 percent from the field and outscored the Eric Gordon-less Hornets at the free throw line, 32-17.
Millsap totaled 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Jefferson added 22 points for the victors. Randy Foye chipped in 14 points and eight assists, and Derrick Favors logged 15 points off the bench in the victory.
"It's tough to let a game like that go," Millsap said of Monday's loss. "We let it go and came out tonight (and) it seemed like it was getting ready to go that way again, but we got it going and won the game."
The Hornets sat Gordon and his ailing knees after a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. They had five players score in double-figures, with Greivis Vasquez putting up 17 points to go with 13 assists.
"I don't think we felt like we could really win tonight," Hornets coach Monty Williams said. "I thought we were hoping, instead of really going after it."
There were four lead changes in the third quarter, which ended with the Jazz clinging to a 78-75 lead, and none in the fourth.
New Orleans went the first 3:49 of the fourth without hitting a field goal and found itself trailing, 90-80, midway through the final frame. One final push pulled the visitors within one, as an Anthony Davis tip-in capped a 12-3 run.
Millsap answered at the other end with a jumper for a 97-94 lead with under two minutes to play, Jefferson followed with another bucket, and Utah went 4- of-5 from the free throw line in the final 18 seconds to close out the win.
Three-pointers by Roger Mason Jr. and Ryan Anderson bookended an early 9-0 Hornets run that yielded a 24-12 lead. The visitors led, 29-19, heading into the second quarter, but were outscored 32-18 in the frame after shooting 5- of-18 (28 percent) from the field.
A Millsap dunk in the closing seconds gave Utah a 51-47 lead at the break.
The Jazz lead the league with 11 comeback wins after trailing by at least 10 points ... Jazz forward Gordon Hayward missed a second straight game with a right shoulder sprain ... Anderson and Robin Lopez scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the loss ... Utah will start a home-and-home series with Portland Friday ... New Orleans will visit Denver and Minnesota to close out its five-game road trip.
