Final Score: Memphis 105, Minnesota 88
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Tayshaun Prince poured in a game-high 18 points on Sunday, as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the injury-riddled Minnesota Timberwolves, 105-88, at FedExForum.
Zach Randolph, Mike Conley and Austin Daye each donated 16 points, with Randolph adding eight rebounds and Conley handing out eight assists for the Grizzlies, who have won nine straight against Minnesota.
"I really think once we start moving the ball, it gets contagious," Conley said of Memphis' balanced attack. "Guys want to make plays for one another. Tonight was a great example of ball movement."
Marc Gasol stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, nine boards and eight assists in Memphis' second consecutive victory.
Ricky Rubio and Luke Ridnour recorded 17 points apiece to lead the Timberwolves, who have lost four straight and 15 of their last 17 games.
"We like to play in the fast break, but the Grizzlies get back on the defense pretty good and that is why they are a good team," Rubio admitted. "They are a hard team to beat. They didn't let us get any easy baskets."
Minnesota guard J.J. Barea sat out with a foot injury, while forward Andrei Kirilenko missed his third straight game with a strained right quadriceps. Forward Kevin Love remains sidelined because of right hand surgery.
Memphis held a slim, 21-20, edge after 12 minutes and the teams exchanged buckets for much of the second until a late 8-0 Memphis sprint provided the home team with a 40-32 lead with just under three minutes left in the half.
Ridnour quelled the spurt with a layup, but the Grizzlies closed the quarter on a 7-3 swing to take a 47-37 cushion into the locker room.
Memphis continued its surge in the third, as the Grizzlies knocked down their first five shots of the second half to build a 58-39 advantage less than three minutes into the frame.
Minnesota got as close as 14 late in the quarter, but Memphis scored the last six points of the stanza to take a comfortable 76-56 lead into the fourth.
The Grizzlies cruised in the final frame, as they led by double-digits throughout the fourth en route to the victory.
