Superal edges Navarro to win Girls' Junior title

Flagstaff, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Princess Mary Superal bogeyed the 37th hole on the Meadow Course at Forest Highlands Golf Club, but it was good enough to defeat Marijosse Navarro, 1-up, to win the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship on Saturday.

Navarro, a three-time Mexican Women's Amateur champion, found water on the first extra hole. After Superal's par putt just missed, Navarro conceded the hole and the match.

Superal was in control throughout most of the day, but she could not quite shake Navarro until the very end. The two halved the first three holes before Superal took her first lead of the day with a birdie at the par-4 fourth.

She remained 1-up until the eighth hole, where Superal made par to go 2-up. Navarro won her first hole at No. 10 when she made birdie on the par-4.

Superal and Navarro matched each other on the next six holes before Superal went back to 2-up with a win at No. 17. Navarro responded with a birdie at 18 to get back to 1-down after the first 18 holes.

After the break, Superal and Navarro halved the next three before Navarro got things back to all-square for the first time since the third hole with a birdie on No. 22. Superal had another answer, however, as she birdied the 23rd hole to regain the lead.

Superal got to 2-up with another birdie on No. 27 and Navarro came back with a birdie at 29. Superal got right back to 2-up with a birdie at No. 30, but Navarro responded with back-to-back wins at 32 and 33, evening things up with three holes to play.

For the first time all day Navarro took the lead with a par at No. 35, but it was short-lived as Superal birdied the final hole of regulation to square the match and send it into extra holes.
