Ha downs Yin to reach Girls' Junior Championship quarterfinals

Flagstaff, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Cindy Ha defeated stroke-play medalist Angel Yin on Thursday to earn her place in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.

Ha topped Yin by a 2 & 1 margin in her second match of the day after defeating Yealimi Noh, 3 & 2, earlier on the Meadow Course at Forest Highlands Golf Club..

Yin, who had the second-lowest 36-hole score in U.S. Girls' Junior history during stroke play, won the first and third holes against Ha to claim an early 1-up lead.

Ha, however, then birdied the fifth and sixth to move ahead before a par at the eighth gave her a 2-up advantage.

Yin managed to battle back and square the match with a par at the ninth and a birdie at the par-5 14th, but Ha regained her 2-up lead with a birdie at the 14th and a par at the 16th.

Both players parred the 17th to clinch the win for Ha.

Brigitte Dunne, Princess Mary Superal, Bethany Wu, Marijosse Navarro, Andrea Lee, Shelly Shin and Binny Lee also won a pair of matches on Thursday to earn their places in the quarterfinals.

Navarro was the lone player to need extra holes, defeating Shannon Brooks with a par on the 19th.

The championship will conclude with a 36-hole final on Saturday.
